About this tool

They describe the same colour three ways. HEX is a compact code for the web. RGB gives the red, green and blue channels from 0 to 255. HSL gives hue, saturation and lightness, which is the easiest of the three to adjust by hand when you want a lighter or duller version of the same colour.

Yes, and it reads the exact pixel you click. Photographs are noisy, so two neighbouring pixels in what looks like one flat area can differ slightly — click a few times and take the value that repeats if you want the representative colour.

No. The picture is drawn into a canvas in your browser and read there, so the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored or logged.

Usually a colour profile. A photograph saved in a wide-gamut profile can display differently from the raw pixel value the picker reports. For web work the HEX value is what matters, because browsers render it exactly as given.

Your file, your device

The image is drawn into a canvas in your own browser and read pixel by pixel there. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged — closing the tab is all the cleanup there is.
