PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG, up to 5 MB — a square image works best
Three steps, about a minute
Choose your logo
Drop a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG into the tool above. A square image crops best; anything else will be squeezed to fit.
Pick a size
32 x 32 is the browser tab default. Larger sizes cover bookmarks, home screens and high-density displays.
Download PNG or ICO
Save the PNG for modern browsers, or the ICO if you also need older Internet Explorer and Windows shortcuts.
Everything a tab icon needs
- Seven sizes, one upload. 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 256 and 512 pixels — switch size and generate again without starting over.
- Both formats. PNG for every current browser, ICO for the older ones that still ask for it.
- You see it before you save it. The generated icon is previewed at its real size, which is where most logos turn to mush.
- SVG goes in too. Vector logos are rasterised at the size you choose, so the small versions stay crisp.
About this tool
Which size should I use?
32 x 32 covers the browser tab and is the one to start with. Add 180 x 180 or 192 x 192 for phone home screens by generating at 256 and letting the browser scale down, and keep a 512 for app manifests.
PNG or ICO — what is the difference?
ICO is the old Windows icon format and is what a plain favicon.ico at the root of a site needs. PNG is smaller and understood by every current browser, and is what a modern link rel=icon tag points at. Take both if you are unsure.
Where do I put the file?
Upload it to the root of your site as favicon.ico, or reference the PNG from the head of your pages with a link rel=icon tag. On WordPress you can set it under Appearance, then Customise, then Site Identity.
My logo looks unreadable at 16 pixels. Why?
Sixteen pixels is about the width of a full stop on screen, so wordmarks and thin lines disappear. Use a single letter, a symbol from the logo, or a simplified mark for the small sizes.
Does my logo get uploaded anywhere?
No. The icon is generated in your browser on your own device, so the file never leaves this tab and nothing is stored or logged.
