Password Strength:
Check Your Own Password:
Numbers, symbols and uppercase are all optional
Three steps, about thirty seconds
Set the length
Drag the slider. Longer is the single biggest thing you can do to make a password hard to guess.
Choose the character types
Numbers, symbols and uppercase letters can each be switched on or off to fit what the site accepts.
Copy it into a manager
Generate, copy, and save it in a password manager rather than trying to remember it.
Built the way password advice actually works
- Generated on your device. The password is created in your browser and never transmitted, logged or stored.
- Length you control. Push it as long as the site allows — length matters far more than exotic characters.
- Strength shown as you go. A live meter so you can see what actually moves the needle.
- Check an existing password. Test one you already use, scored in the same tab, without sending it anywhere.
About this tool
Is this only for Instagram?
No. It generates a strong password for any account. Instagram is just the one people most often arrive looking for.
Is it safe to type my current password in?
This tool scores it entirely in your browser and never transmits it. As a general habit though, be wary of typing a live password into any website — the safe move is to test a password you are about to start using, not one already protecting an account.
Does it store the passwords it makes?
No. Nothing is saved. Refresh the page and the password is gone, which is why you should copy it into a password manager straight away.
How long should a password be?
Sixteen characters or more is a sensible floor for an account that matters. Length adds far more real protection than swapping an o for a zero.
Should I reuse it across sites?
No. A unique password per account is the whole point — it means one breach somewhere else cannot open your other accounts.
